We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant
Purchasing Officer / Buyer
to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you'll play a key part in managing supplier relationships, securing the best deals, and ensuring smooth flow of materials to support our projects.
What you'll be doing
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
* Negotiating contracts, prices, and terms to achieve the best value.
* Researching new products and suppliers (including overseas) where necessary.
* Processing requisitions and raising purchase orders.
* Tracking and expediting orders to ensure on-time delivery.
* Coordinating with suppliers to resolve any quality issues (e.g., rework or replacements).
* Working closely with other departments to align purchasing with business needs.
* Monitoring stock levels of standard components (e.g., bearings) and reordering when required.
* Occasionally supporting the Stores Supervisor with updating computer records.
About you
* Computer literate and quick to pick up new systems and processes.
* Strong communicator, comfortable dealing with suppliers and colleagues both in person and over the phone (even in challenging situations).
* Flexible and adaptable – happy to support other tasks when needed.
* Health & Safety conscious.
* Able to read mechanical engineering drawings to a moderate level (engineering background desirable).
* Holds a valid driving licence (some supplier/customer visits required).
* Calm and level-headed under pressure, especially during busy project periods.
