Private Client Locum Solicitor – Monmouthshire

Duration: 3–6 months
Location: Monmouthshire office (minimum 2 days per week in the office, ideally 3)
Working pattern: Full‑time or part‑time considered
Hourly rate: Competitive

Role description
My client is seeking an experienced Private Client Locum Solicitor to join their Monmouthshire office on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will handle a full range of private client matters and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. A STEP qualification is preferred but not essential. We will also consider highly experienced Legal Executives.
Experience required
* Qualified Solicitor (preferred) or highly experienced Legal Executive
* STEP qualification desirable
* Strong background in private client work, including probate and trusts
* Ability to manage files autonomously and hit the ground running
* Confident working with clients, executors, beneficiaries and third parties
* Strong technical knowledge of wills, estate administration and tax considerations
* Ability to attend the office 2–3 days per week
* Excellent communication, organisation and file‑management skills
Typical duties
* Managing a caseload of private client matters from instruction to completion
* Advising on and drafting wills, including complex and bespoke wills
* Preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney
* Handling probate applications, including Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration
* Administering estates, including collecting assets, paying liabilities and preparing estate accounts
* Advising on inheritance tax, reliefs and exemptions
* Drafting and advising on trusts, including creation, administration and termination
* Preparing deeds of variation and other associated documents
* Liaising with executors, trustees, beneficiaries, financial advisers and HMRC
* Conducting client meetings in person and remotely
* Ensuring compliance with regulatory and firm procedures
* Maintaining accurate file notes and up‑to‑date case management records
* Providing clear, empathetic and professional client care throughout
