🧠Purpose of the Role
This senior leadership position oversees the credit control function across the UK and Ireland, while coordinating credit policy and performance across wider international operations (Europe, Africa, and APAC). The role is critical in safeguarding financial interests through robust credit risk assessment, credit insurance management, and fostering a commercially supportive, customer-centric credit environment that enables sustainable growth and long-term client relationships.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & People Management
* Lead and inspire credit control teams across the UK and Ireland
* Set clear objectives, expectations, and development plans
* Promote a high-performance culture and cross-functional collaboration
2. Credit Risk Assessment & Financial Control
* Conduct detailed financial analysis of customers, including large contractors and key accounts
* Approve and monitor credit limits in line with risk appetite
* Oversee overdue debt, high-risk accounts, and escalations
3. Commercial Partnership & Customer Engagement
* Collaborate with sales and business development teams to support growth while protecting receivables
* Engage directly with major buyers to review terms, resolve disputes, and negotiate recovery strategies
* Champion service excellence and customer retention
4. Credit Insurance Management
* Manage the regional credit insurance programme
* Liaise with insurers on limit applications, exposure updates, and claims processes
5. Divisional Coordination & Policy Alignment
* Drive standardisation and best practices across international credit teams
* Lead divisional credit forums and continuous improvement initiatives
* Coordinate with other business units on shared buyer exposure and risk
6. Reporting & Governance
* Deliver timely, insightful reports to senior finance stakeholders
* Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit standards, and governance frameworks
👤 Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
* 10+ years in credit control, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role within a multinational B2B environment
* Experience in construction, manufacturing, or building materials sectors preferred
* Proven ability to manage complex credit operations across multiple geographies
* Credit insurance portfolio management experience is essential
* Relevant financial or business qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CICM) is advantageous
