Graduate Finance Assistant
Cambridge (hybrid)
£24,000-£29,000 per annum
Are you looking to kick-start your career in finance or tax? Do you enjoy working with data, problem-solving, and learning new systems? We’re looking for a motivated Junior VAT and Financial Reporting Assistant to join the busy finance team of our Cambridge based client. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their career who wants hands-on experience across VAT, accounting, and financial reporting.
What you'll be doing
As part of the Tax and Finance team, you’ll support the monthly VAT process and assist with wider reporting. Full training will be provided, but you’ll need a keen eye for detail and a willingness to learn.
VAT Reporting Responsibilities:
* Creating and preparing monthly VAT reporting spreadsheets
* Downloading and populating data from our ERP system (MS Dynamics 365)
* Reviewing large volumes of transactional VAT data (approx. 40,000 lines)
* Checking the accuracy of VAT codes and VAT analysis
* Reviewing UK and foreign VAT transactions, including VAT reverse charges
* Validating UK and EU VAT registration numbers using online tools
* Preparing foreign VAT refund claims as required
* Processing journals (e.g., VAT cleardown, provisions, bad debt) within the ERP system
* Monitoring and responding to a shared mailbox daily
* Handling queries or directing them to the appropriate team member
Financial Reporting Support:
* Assisting with preparation of year-end and statutory accounts
* Supporting the team with audit queries
What we're looking for
* Strong attention to detail and willingness to work with large data sets
* Good Excel skills (training provided for more advanced functions)
* Interest in tax, finance, or accounting
* Ability to follow processes accurately
* Eagerness to learn systems such as MS Dynamics 365
* Great communication skills and a proactive attitude
