Salford CVS – an established charity and local infrastructure organisation supporting the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Salford – is seeking a Finance Manager. This newly created role will strengthen the organisation's financial management capacity and support its continued growth across a diverse range of programmes, ensuring the organisation's financial practices align with its mission, values and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Producing accurate and timely quarterly management accounts, including all supporting schedules and reconciliations.
Providing clear financial insight and analysis to the Senior Management Team and Management Team to support organisational decision-making.
Supporting robust project monitoring by preparing detailed project-level reports for managers and funders.
Supporting the annual budgeting process, including entering budgets into Aqilla and updating records as programmes evolve.
Monitoring organisational and project budgets, highlighting risks, variances and opportunities for improvement.
Preparing costings for funding bids, tenders and proposals to ensure full cost recovery and sustainable delivery.
Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data within Aqilla and Sharperlight.
Ensuring strong internal financial controls are operating effectively and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
Overseeing the full monthly payroll cycle and managing the end-to-end monthly invoicing process, maintaining payment schedules and robust income tracking.
Preparing supporting documentation, reconciliations and adjustment schedules for the annual statutory audit and producing draft year-end financial statements.
Line managing and developing the Finance Officer, promoting a collaborative, supportive and solutions-focused working culture.
Managing the accounts receivable function, ensuring timely collection of income while maintaining positive relationships with partners and funders.
Promoting the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of Salford CVS and ensuring compliance with organisational policies, safeguarding, data protection and Health & Safety requirements.
Skills and Experience
Knowledge of charity accounting principles, including restricted and unrestricted funds, fund accounting and relevant Charity SORP expectations.
Strong experience in producing management and annual accounts, including associated schedules and financial documentation.
Experience developing and managing organisational budgets and project finances.
Significant experience of internal financial controls and credit control.
Proven experience in maintaining accurate financial records and using finance and reporting systems such as Aqilla and Sharperlight, including creating management reports for wider teams.
Significant experience of UK payroll processes and legislation.
Line management experience, with the ability to support and develop finance team members.
Excellent accuracy, attention to detail and ability to analyse financial data and produce clear reports.
Ability to manage workload effectively, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
Strong ability to work collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
Ability to identify opportunities to improve financial systems and processes.
Experience of working for a registered charity within a finance department.

Willingness and ability to work from the Eccles office, undertake travel across Salford and Greater Manchester, work flexibly when required and support emergency response activities.

Salary: NJC Point 31 – £25,062.60 per annum (FTE £41,771).
Location: Eccles, Salford (in person at Salford CVS offices, M30 0FN).
Hours: 22.5 hours per week, worked over 3–4 days (one full day to include Monday).
