Assistant General Manager / Head of Operations (Live-in available)

Macbeth Hotels Ltd is an independent, owner‑led boutique hospitality group founded in 2014 by Louise & Andy Macbeth. We operate 20‑bedroom Beck Hall in Malham and are opening a second 15‑bedroom fully plant‑based boutique hotel in Wales in Spring 2026. We are the first and only fully plant‑based hotels in England and Wales.

As the business grows, we are creating a senior operational role to bring more structure, consistency and people leadership to the day‑to‑day running of our hotels, allowing the owners to focus on creative aspects and future growth.

This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role for someone who thrives on turning ideas into action, organising teams, and raising standards through calm, consistent leadership. The role will play a key part in preparing and delivering the opening of our Wales hotel, alongside strengthening operational and financial control at Beck Hall.

The role

Reporting directly to the owners, the Assistant General Manager / Head of Operations will:

* Take ownership of day‑to‑day hotel operations across both sites
* Manage and support the existing management team
* Introduce structure, clarity and accountability
* Execute ideas, promotions, initiatives and events

Key Responsibilities


Operations & Structure

* Oversee daily hotel operations (rooms, restaurant, FOH, housekeeping)
* Implement clear routines, checklists and standards
* Ensure rotas are fair, cost‑effective and well planned
* Act as the operational decision‑maker in the owners’ absence


People & Management

* Set clear expectations and follow through
* Address performance issues early and constructively
* Improve communication, morale and consistency across teams


Execution & Planning

* Turn creative ideas (menus, seasonal offers, events) into delivered plans
* Ensure forward planning is done weeks, not days, in advance
* Coordinate across departments to avoid last‑minute firefighting


Admin, Compliance & Oversight

* Support HR processes, recruitment and onboarding
* Oversee H&S, compliance, licensing and basic reporting
* Act as the operational link between sites


Financial Control, Budgets & Performance

* Set departmental budgets in collaboration with the owners
* Monitor budgets, wage spend and cost control on an ongoing basis
* Track and review key KPIs (occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, wage %, GP, guest feedback)
* Produce simple, clear operational and financial summaries for the owners
* Identify trends, risks and opportunities, and suggest practical areas for improvement
* Support managers to understand and take ownership of their numbers
