Offer description

Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

A unique opportunity to join AWS as a Data Centre Technician. You will become the primary resolver for your support team, gain troubleshooting skills on one or more operating systems, and be able to troubleshoot and solve all but the most complex infrastructure issues. Issues are escalated to the appropriate resolver groups when necessary. You will create and maintain documentation on technologies you support and be able to convey Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to junior staff. You will understand all aspects of the equipment you support and know how to innovate and make decisions independently, while also taking direction when given, paying attention to all details involved. You will be able to execute small projects on your own and work with your manager in planning and executing larger local projects. You will act as an escalation point for junior technicians and understand all aspects of the equipment you support.

Regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, with participation in an on-call rotation and requirement to provide shift coverage during emergencies. This may include responding to after-hours calls, working outside regular business hours, 12-hour shifts, or rotating shifts to ensure operational coverage during critical situations. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

* Troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service-Level Agreements (SLAs)
* Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
* Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
* Respond to off-hour emergency calls per on-call rotation for any one of the region’s sites
* Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
* Must be commutable to the Thames Valley Region

Basic Qualifications

* 3+ years of computer hardware experience
* 3+ years of computer networking experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Associate’s degree or higher in an IT-related field, applicable certifications, or equivalent professional/military experience
* Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network+ certifications
* Experience with CISCO, Juniper and other commodity networking devices
* Previous experience working in a Data Centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment)
* Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and ability to pass a driving record check to operate company vehicles
* Willingness to travel between sites/locations during the workday
