Location: Northumberland
Salary: £89–£103 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025
Support that makes a lasting difference.
We’re looking for a calm, confident, and compassionate Support Assistant to join a specialist setting for secondary-aged pupils (11–16) who experience significant Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Every pupil has, or is in the process of receiving, an EHCP—and many are neurodivergent.
This school offers a small, structured and nurturing environment where consistency is key and every relationship matters. You’ll be part of a supportive team focused on emotional regulation, engagement, and helping young people re-find their rhythm in education.
What your role will involve:
* Providing consistent, trauma-informed support to pupils with SEMH needs
* Working 1:1 and in small groups to support self-regulation and learning
* Modelling positive communication, resilience and emotional safety
* Supporting with de-escalation strategies and behaviour intervention plans
* Helping pupils build confidence, self-awareness, and routine
Who this role suits:
* People with experience in SEMH, PRU, youth work or therapeutic education
* Calm, grounded individuals who can hold space during dysregulation
* Strong communicators who value empathy, boundaries, and teamwork
* Those who believe in second chances, patience and potential
What you’ll get through Protocol Education:
* Weekly PAYE pay between £89–£103 per day
* FREE access to our CPD Academy—including trauma-informed practice, Thrive, and Team Teach
* Ongoing 1:1 support from your SEND-specialist consultant
* Referral bonuses when you introduce talented colleagues
