Main duties of the job We are looking for a Junior Clinical Research Fellow to join our Infectious Diseases team at UHS. This is a split clinical and research post (50:50). For the research component you will provide support and medical cover to a portfolio of clinical Infectious Diseases research studies currently taking place at UHS including trials of novel point-of-care diagnostics for infection. You will be provided with training in the design, conduct and reporting of clinical trials and is suitable for those aiming for both a clinical academic or a primarily clinical career. For the clinical component you will be provided SHO level support to the Infectious Diseases inpatient service, at UHS and be responsible for the day to day review and management of the inpatients, under the supervision of the registrars and consultants. The posts also aim to develop and improve links between hospital research staff and clinical staff in the clinical areas such as acute medical unit and emergency department. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic person, with good team-working and problem-solving skills, who would like to gain clinical experience in clinical Infectious Diseases whilst gaining research skills and experience. It is suitable for candidates interested in a clinical or academic career in infectious diseases. There will be the opportunity to develop a research interest and to go on to apply for a higher research degree (MD or PhD) if desired. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities This post provides an unrivalled opportunity for clinical and research training in this speciality. To provide support and medical cover to infectious diseases studies taking place at UHS. This will include the identification and screening of appropriate patients in the AMU and other clinical areas, patient consenting, collection of patient samples, collection of clinical data, use of electric and paper case report forms, conducting follow-up visits and the submission and maintenance of regulatory documents. To assist in the training and development of medical and nursing staff, to maintain accurate and accessible research records and provide formal reports where required, to participate in research meetings and internal seminars and to conduct any other duties as may be deemed reasonable by the supervisors. To participate in the general day-to-day clinical activity of the Infectious Diseases inpatient firm which involves assessment of newly admitted and referred patients, daily reviews on inpatients as part of the consultant or registrar led ward round, ordering of investigations and management of results, liaising with patients, their families and other hospital teams and completion of discharge paperwork. Additional Information Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).
