Overview
The ultrasound department at The Great Western Hospital is seeking kind, compassionate and enthusiastic people to join our team of 12 sonographers who work closely with radiologists, nurses, clinical support workers and other allied health professionals. Responsibilities
* Perform ultrasound scans including highly specialised techniques where indicated.
* Caring for patients during examinations, respecting privacy and confidentiality, and maintaining a high quality service to patients and clinicians.
* Independently assess each patient and adapt scanning technique according to the needs of the patient.
* Use discretion and experience to work outside departmental standards when clinically needed.
* Vet ultrasound requests from a variety of referrers.
* Write formal reports in a concise and professional manner in accordance with local protocol.
* Discuss ultrasound findings with other practitioners and clinicians where indicated.
* Manage own workload and assist others when possible.
* Be involved in audit, quality assurance and clinical governance where needed.
* Assist in the support and training of student sonographers.
* Be responsible for continual CPD, training and attendance at courses as needed.
* Contribute to planning, organisation and smooth running of the area, liaising with clinicians and other staff within the trust and GP practices.
* Participate in out-of-hours rota, working unsociable hours and weekends where required.
Benefits and Bonus
A generous recruitment and retention bonus of £10,000 is available for new personnel joining us. The recruitment and retention premium will be paid in two instalments: £5,000 in the first month of employment and a further £5,000 on the anniversary of the start date. If the individual leaves within the first four years, repayment may be required as outlined: 0–1 Year £5,000; 1–2 Years £2,500; 2–3 Years £1,000.
Requirements
* Be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality ultrasound service.
* Be responsible for own workload and ensure effective throughputs of patients; workload may be unpredictable.
* Provide high standards of patient care in a safe, clean and tidy working environment; observe Trust and departmental policies and maintain professional and personal standards.
* Prioritise requests using expert clinical knowledge to schedule patient appointments within appropriate time scales.
* Comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
