The Associate Banker contributes to all phases of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, execution, and implementation and monitoring. The Associate Banker will be responsible for tasks assigned by the operation leader, such as conducting comprehensive due diligence—including financial, market, integrity, and EBRD policy compliance—and ensuring effective post-signing implementation and monitoring. They will work as part of a project team under the guidance of an operation leader or senior bankers. A focus on green investments, aligning with the Paris Agreement and climate risk assessments, is essential. The role may also involve business development, client management, and policy dialogue, with projects in francophone West Africa.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the operation leader or a senior banker:
Structuring and Execution:
* Work on transactions as part of a project team, contributing to project structuring and execution, including collaboration with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders;
* Participate in climate assessments, ensuring compliance with the Paris Agreement, understanding industry low-carbon pathways, and conducting climate risk assessments;
* Drive the scope and quality of project due diligence, covering financial, climate, market, integrity, and policy compliance;
* Prepare internal documentation such as project memoranda, financial models, draft term sheets, and presentations;
* Design and process technical co-operation assistance, coordinating with investment schedules and policy dialogues;
* Complete tasks within set timeframes, maintaining high standards and adherence to Bank policies.
Business Development:
* Support marketing and business development efforts;
* This role is designed to develop transaction expertise, with potential to lead standard, non-complex transactions under supervision, increasing responsibilities over time.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred or equivalent experience;
* Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable;
* Relevant experience in investment or commercial banking, private equity, asset management, or financial consulting;
* Strong quantitative skills and financial modeling expertise;
* Credit analysis skills, with understanding of accounting principles and credit interpretation;
* Knowledge of physical and transition climate risks, Paris Agreement methodologies (e.g., EU Taxonomy, SBTi);
* Understanding of decarbonization challenges in manufacturing and services sectors is desirable;
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial analysis, and modeling tools;
* Effective team player with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
* Excellent communication skills in English and French;
* Experience in SSA is desirable; knowledge of additional languages (Russian, Arabic, Turkish, German) is a plus;
* Exposure to manufacturing and services sectors; understanding of development finance architecture is advantageous.
