Senior Content Designer – Contract (Inside IR35)
Day rate: £600–£700
Duration: Until October 2026
Location: 1 day per week in London, Glasgow, or Cardiff (your choice)
Are you an experienced Senior Content Designer ready to shape meaningful, user‑centred digital services? This is a fantastic long‑term contract with the opportunity to lead content strategy across high‑impact public initiatives that make a real difference.
The Role
You will join a multidisciplinary digital delivery environment, working closely with interaction designers, service designers, user researchers, product managers and stakeholders. As a senior practitioner, you will define content standards, lead content projects, and champion best practice in user‑centred design.
This role also plays a key part in mentoring other content designers and supporting the development of a growing content design community.
What You will Do
Lead content design activities across multiple products and services
Set content direction and scope, ensuring clarity, usability and alignment with user needs
Create, refine and own content across projects—working with delivery teams and stakeholders
Develop and embed efficient ways of working for content design within multidisciplinary teams
Support and mentor junior and mid‑level content designers
Review and assure the quality of content produced by others
Translate complex, technical or policy‑heavy information into simple, accessible digital content
Essential Skills & Experience
Professional expertise in research‑driven and data‑driven content design

Strong experience working with interaction design, service design and user research
(Lead criterion)
Ability to transform complex or technical concepts into clear, user‑friendly content
Experience improving and streamlining content design processes in digital delivery teams
Experience mentoring or training content designers
Desirable
Public sector content design experience
Working knowledge of GDS Service Standards or service assessments
