Hydrologist / Water Resource Engineer (Mining)
Location: WSP UK & Ireland – London or Naas office (Ireland). Full-time, permanent.
We are looking for a Hydrologist or Water Resource Engineer to join our Mine Water team for projects predominantly in the mining sector, with potential work in infrastructure, manufacturing and land development.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to water resources aspects of mining projects: environmental assessments, permitting, engineering design, ESG considerations, and water stewardship.
* Conduct climate, hydrological and hydraulic assessments; develop water management plans; perform water balance modelling; conduct climate change modelling; design water management infrastructure.
* Conduct dam break analyses and consequence classification assessments.
* Prepare technical documents for senior review.
* Support non‑mining projects in the UK and Ireland, including Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS design.
* Travel to site work as required.
* Assist in client relationship development and business development.
* Collaborate with colleagues and support senior staff to meet project goals.
* Work collaboratively with other disciplines within WSP as needed.
* Display a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with WSP’s health and safety culture.
Required Qualifications
* BSc (or equivalent) in Water Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering (hydrology and hydraulics), Geography or Environmental Sciences; MSc in hydrology or hydraulic design advantageous.
* Strong technical and report‑writing skills.
* Excellent communication skills in English.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
* Good organisational and time‑management skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
* Flexibility and willingness to travel locally and internationally.
Desirable Skills
* Experience conducting hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and/or design of water management infrastructure.
* Experience in mining sector projects.
* Consulting or engineering experience.
* Competency with GIS and CAD systems.
* Programming language skills (Python, R, C).
* Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, PC SWMM).
* GoldSim Monte Carlo Simulation experience.
* Membership of a relevant professional organisation.
* Additional language skills.
* Travel to UK sites and international travel experience.
