Job overview
Working as a member of the Chronic Pain Service team you will be responsible for general secretarial and admission duties for the Consultants and Nurses in the Chronic Pain Service at the Central Health Clinic. You will provide an efficient, smooth running secretarial and reception service, and undertake other duties as deemed necessary such as booking small theatre lists at SBCH.
Main duties of the job
Proofreading reports following Clinic appointments, booking 1-2 theatre lists per week and communicating with the listed Anaesthetic consultant. You will also be asked to cover the front desk when cover is needed.

Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of using Microsoft packages – Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher
* Experience of working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
* Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person
* Experience of audio typing / word processing
* Experience working in a NHS / healthcare setting
* Experience of using Medway or similar in‑house patient record system
* Some knowledge of medical terminology
* Polite at all times
Public Sector Language Competency
* Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard.
Skills and Abilities
* Effective communication skills, verbally and written
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
* Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
* Ability to work on your own, using your own initiative, if required
* Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
* Ability to adapt to use new computer packages and programmes
* Effective organisational skills
* Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
* Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
* Ability to take and produce minutes
Qualifications and Training
* GCSE A*‑C in both English Language and Mathematics or equivalent in these two subjects e.g. Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2
* Business and Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience
* Qualified in word processing or audio typing (or equivalent)
