Overview
This full-time post is available from 6 October 2025 on a fixed term basis until 5 October 2026.
The role
The primary purpose of this role is to deliver intensive support to our postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes. Specifically, you will support our existing MSc/MRes Advanced Biological Sciences programmes. You will have responsibility for the coordination of PGT research project modules, supporting students and supervisors with the allocation and delivery of projects within host research laboratories in the Department. You will coordinate and be involved in the design, development, production and delivery of teaching and learning materials across undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the areas of science communication, experimental design, advanced laboratory skills and professional skills. You will also have a pastoral role in supporting PGT students and signposting them to welfare and career support within the University.
You will work with the Biosciences’ Co-Directors of Education and Student Experience and other colleagues to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of our taught programmes. As a member of the Biosciences Education Committee, you will contribute to the development and delivery of our departmental education strategy and assist with the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices and student-focused initiatives to support student experience and success.
About you
For an Associate Lecturer post you will:
* Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion), or equivalent qualification/experience, of the core knowledge relating to academic area in order to teach and support learning on academic area modules.
* Staff at this level are expected to achieve Associate Fellow of the HEA within two years of appointment (if not already achieved) and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
For a Lecturer post you will:
* Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD or equivalent in Biological Sciences to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
* Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
* Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
* Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
* Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

The starting salary will be from £33,951 on Grade E for Associate Lecturer level and from £43,482 on Grade F for Lecturer level, depending on qualifications and experience.
