Job Title: Building Surveyor Location: Dorset Council (Hybrid/Onsite as required) Contract Type: Temporary Hours: 37 hours per week Salary: £400-£500 per day (DOE) About the Role Dorset Council is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to deliver high-quality property and asset management services across the borough. You will play a key role in ensuring the Council's housing stock and public buildings are maintained to a safe, compliant, and cost-effective standard. This role focuses on capital works projects, compliance, and effective management of repairs and maintenance programs. Key Responsibilities Deliver and manage a wide range of capital repairs, planned maintenance, and compliance projects. Conduct property and condition surveys, diagnosing building defects, and specifying appropriate remedial actions. Manage budgets and contracts for works over £100,000, ensuring value for money and compliance with procurement rules. Oversee disrepair claims, prepare detailed reports, and provide expert witness evidence if required. Ensure compliance with health and safety, including CDM Regulations and Asbestos Management. Liaise with contractors, consultants, tenants, and internal stakeholders to deliver works efficiently and to high standards. Support strategic asset management plans, identifying opportunities for service improvement. Provide professional technical advice and guidance to the wider housing and property teams. What We're Looking For Proven experience as a Building Surveyor, ideally within a local authority, housing association, or public sector environment. Strong knowledge of repairs, maintenance, capital projects, and asset management. Experience managing contracts and budgets, with projects of £100k. Up-to-date knowledge of building legislation, compliance, CDM regulations, and health & safety. Ability to produce clear technical reports, specifications, and tender documentation. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Degree, HNC/HND in Building Surveying or equivalent qualification (chartered membership desirable). Driving licence required.
