Senior community engagement officer

London
London Fire Brigade
Community engagement officer
£40,000 - £70,000 a year
Posted: 1 October
Offer description

London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London's Fire and Rescue Service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city.

We employ over 5,500 people, across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer your 999 calls) and our non-operational team (our teams who work behind the scenes to support our front-line services, including HR, IT, Finance, Procurement, Communications etc.).

This role contributes to the Brigade's strategic approach to deliver effective ways to engage community groups or representatives, assuring London Fire Brigade is trusted to protect and serve. We have a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Community Engagement Officer to join a team focused on improving and embedding community engagement across LFB.

Positioned within our Communications & Engagement Department and reporting to the Community Engagement Manager you will play a critical role in the delivery of our new community engagement training programme, develop community engagement initiatives across fire stations with operational staff, play a leading role in our involvement in the annual assessment of risk and other consultation activities, and form part of the incident response team supporting communities when they are most impacted by serious incidents and helping in community recovery.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of coordinating and delivering a range of community engagement and involvement activities. They will also have experience in facilitating training or similar, and will be comfortable leading sessions with senior operational officers. The successful applicant will be comfortable increasing engagement with underrepresented, seldom heard communities, working with trauma, and be guided by the ambition to make LFB a more inclusive environment for communities.

Due to the travel across and around London and the need to form part of an out of hours on call rota the post holder should consider commute and capability to travel with ease and pace within the capital.

Further information about the main duties and responsibilities of the role are detailed in the job description.

We value the diversity of our employees and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects our diverse communities across London. The London Fire Commissioner is an Equal Opportunities Employer and we positively welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals, irrespective of people's age, disability, gender, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances. We have guidance in place to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and consistently at every stage of the recruitment process, including the consideration of reasonable adjustments for people who have a disability.
