Your Way to Impact
At PayPal, Backend Senior Software Engineers are the architects of our global payment platform. You'll design, develop, and optimize core systems that power millions of transactions daily, directly impacting our customers' experiences and our company's success.
Your Day-to-Day
As a Backend Senior Software Engineer (Backend), you will architect and lead the development of complex backend systems, drive innovation, and mentor the team.
1. Architect and design large-scale backend systems.
2. Lead and mentor engineering teams.
3. Drive technical excellence and best practices
4. Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
What You Need to Bring
5. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
6. 5+ years of backend development experience.
7. Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java/Scala)
8. Expertise in architecting and developing large-scale backend systems using Java EE or Scala.
9. Proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex RESTful APIs and microservices.
10. Leadership in guiding engineering teams through complex technical challenges and design decisions.
11. In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
12. Experience with large-scale data processing, caching strategies, and performance optimization.
13. Strong experience with distributed systems and microservices.
14. Proven ability to lead and mentor teams.
Preferred Qualifications
15. Experience with Agile methodology, large-scale, high-performance systems.
16. Knowledge of the payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
17. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
