Ward Based Assistant

We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Assistant eager to expand skills by moving from Community to Hospital Pharmacy, or to progress further within a hospital setting.
Ideally, you will have obtained a Specialist BTEC Level 2 Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Support Staff, Pharmacy Service Skills NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent GPhC‑recognised qualification). This qualification is not essential and support through the process can be provided. Successful applicants who do not hold the required qualification will be paid at band 2, rising to band 3 upon successful completion.
Many staff progress from this level to become Pharmacy Technicians or take other roles within the wider Pharmacy team. This role is predominantly ward‑based across medicine with a 20% dispensary commitment at John Radcliffe Hospital.
The Dispensary team uses evolving technology, including electronic prescribing and a robot that supports labelling and dispensing of medications. The successful application will be trained in the full use of the robotic system.
Key duties include:
* Dispensing medicines according to procedure
* Using the Pharmacy Computer System to produce dispensing labels
* Preparing emergency drug boxes
* Maintaining accurate medication records
* Assisting in efficient stock control management
In addition, you will support the dispensary team by handling clinical duties and the 20% commitment at the hospital.
Person Specification
* NVQ 2 in pharmaceutical sciences
* Experienced dispenser
* Experience of stock management
* Able to work as part of a team and independently
* Able to use own initiative appropriately
* Willing to travel between sites
* Enthusiastic and responsible attitude
* Ability to work well under pressure
* Adaptable to change
* Respectful towards colleagues and patients
* Willing to work in clinical areas with infectious diseases patients
* Previous NHS experience
* Experience of using the local pharmacy computer system
* Experience of hospital pharmacy
* Well organised
* A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
* Able to use own initiative appropriately
* Experience of a changing work environment
