Hours: 35 hrs, term time only
Location: Schools in Rivermead Inclusive Trust
We are seeking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to support the work of the therapy team. The therapy assistant will work under the direction of the Therapy Lead and therapists to ensure learners are offered consistent, high quality therapeutic support.
You will be required to work across different mainstream and specialist settings. You will support in reducing barriers to education for learners with SEND, e.g. Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions, ADHD and SEMH needs.
Training will be provided to the right candidate, however the following are desirable:
Knowledge:
* Some knowledge about what different types of therapy offer
* Knowledge of a range of special educational needs and disabilities
* Knowledge of speech and language strategies/interventions
Skills:
* Able to communicate effectively with professionals, parents/carers and the young people themselves
* Proactive – able to work flexibly, show initiative and manage own workload
* Able to follow the direction of a qualified therapist by adhering to therapy programmes and seeking support when required
* A level of literacy skills which would enable you to write coherent therapy notes
* Ability to work within a team
* A positive work ethic
* Able to motivate and inspire children and young people
Experience:
* Experience working in an education or therapy environment
* It is desirable to have experience working with children with Autism and/or other Special Educational Needs
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Work under the direction of a therapist to meet the therapeutic needs of learners
* Work flexibly across schools
* Keep accurate, timely records of therapy sessions
* Notify the therapist when expected progress is not being made
* Work effectively with children to help them engage in sessions
* Attend and contribute to therapy meetings
* Liaise with other professionals, e.g. NHS
* Run individual/group interventions and provide short review reports
* Ensure NHS therapy reports are filed appropriately and shared with class staff
* Support class staff in meeting learner’s therapy needs in class
Please note, the post-holder must be able to travel between schools so access to a car is essential.
