Overview
We are currently looking for a self‑motivated, independent and resourceful Support Secretary to work in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. This is an interesting and varied post providing comprehensive support to the department.
Responsibilities
* Accurate audio typing and administration of Oral and Maxillofacial clinics
* Ensuring prompt output and sign‑off within agreed timescales
* Developing and maintaining a sound knowledge of Patientcentre/PAS
* Gaining a hands‑on understanding of RTT18 and NHS targets
* Ensuring follow‑up actions from clinics are dealt with and recorded accurately within Patientcentre
* Dealing with telephone enquiries in a professional and timely manner and covering unattended colleagues telephones within the unit
* Maintaining sound knowledge of medical terminology, tests, symptoms and other clinical elements relevant to the departments specialty
* Assisting counterpart in covering Medical Secretary during periods of leave
* Providing secretarial and administrative support to the Oral and Maxillofacial Department, reporting to the Service Co‑ordinator and working closely with a Medical Secretary and Support Secretary to ensure delivery of the service within NHS targets and RTT18 guidelines
Qualifications
We are looking for an experienced secretary with medical experience in a hospital or clinical environment who is able to work both within a busy team and on their own initiative when required. Candidates must be able to prioritise their own workload, ideally possess excellent audio typing skills (training could be given), excellent communication skills combined with an excellent telephone manner, possess a flexible and pro‑active attitude and remain calm under pressure. Experience of audio typing is desirable.
