Job summary

We are offering an exciting TraineePsychological Wellbeing Practitioner (TPWP) opportunity, starting Autumn 2025 inHereford with NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Talking Therapies.

All successful applicants willbe enrolled on to the Trainee PWP programme with the University ofBirmingham. On successful competition of the course, you will gain thepost graduate certificate in lower intensity psychological interventions, andyou will be able to practice as a PWP within the trust on a permanent basis.

Following this you will berequired to apply for entry to the PWP registration of the of the BritishPsychological Society (BPS) or The British Association for Behavioural andCognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

If you are shortlisted, youwill need to apply to the University of Birmingham via an application andattend an interview for an academic test (10, 11or 12 June 2025)

If you are successful, you will then beshortlisted for an interview with our service this will be a face to faceinterview at Benet Building, Ruck hall Lane on either the 15th, 16th,or 17th July 2025. You must be available to attend allparts of the interview dates stated for the university and service.

You will also need to completethe application to the university and send this directly to them. If you do notapply you will not be invited for the academic selection dates above a link tothe application is in the supporting information section.


Main duties of the job

Contracted hours for this role are full-time andrequirements are 37.5 hours per week with a blended delivery of working in theoffice and University study days, there may be some requirement to also workfrom home.

Trainee PWPs will be supported to learn and develop theirskills around screening patients suitability for the service and treatingpatients using step 2 interventions based on the principles of CBT for mild tomoderate depression and anxiety disorders. Intervention will be delivered via acombination of telephone, digital, psychoeducational courses and one-to-one.

Trainee PWPs will work closely with a Senior PWP who willoffer regular one to one and group supervision and support you to meet therequirements of the programme.

Further training and support is offered by the Universityof Birmingham programme tutors. This will be delivered via a combination oflectures, skills workshops and online and on-campus learning to developclinical skills and meet requirements for University Assignments.

Your focus will be on providing excellent patient careand treatment supported of cutting-edge Low Intensity PsychologicalInterventions within primary care mental health. You will support the deliveryof training, education and close partnership working, maintaining effectivecommunications with both internal and external partners

Job responsibilities

NHSHerefordshire and Worcestershire Talking Therapies is a dynamic talkingtherapies service that strives for balance between meeting locally commissionedtargets, clinical effectiveness, and patient-centred care.

TheTrainee PWP role is designed for support workers, care workers, triage assessors andother helping roles to prepare them for employment as a Psychological WellbeingPractitioner. You will need experienceof working with people and adults with mental health problems or difficulties.Applicants should have a good understanding of talking therapies and the roleof a PWP.

Additional Criteria

* Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality
* Travel for university requirements and teaching
* Working in office base as well as some remote working


Qualifications

* M Level Study (Postgraduate) Route: Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject or equivalent, for example a registered nurse or allied health professional OR H Level Study (Graduate) Certificate Route: If you do not have a degree you may study at H level and you will require at least 2 advanced level GCEs or equivalent, such as a BTEC (GNVQ or NVQ at levels 3 or 4)
* For those applicants whose first language is not English, or for those whose first degree was not taught in English, the minimum requirements for TOEFL/IELTS are: 100 for internet-based TOEFL with no less than 23 in any band, 600 for paper-based TOEFL (TWE4) or 7.0 for IELTS with no less than 6.5 in any band.
* I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Experience

* A minimum of 12 months of direct clinical experience of working with adults experiencing common mental health problems. OR 3 years part-time voluntary experience with an established charity (such as MIND, Samaritans) offering interventions to people experiencing common mental health issues
* Demonstrate high standards in written communication
* Able to write clear reports and letters
* IT and computer literate and experience using Word/Excel/PowerPoint
* Experience of working in Primary Care Services
* Experience delivering low intensity interventions either via group setting or one to one.
* Experience of conducting person centred assessments with patients
* Worked in a service where agreed targets/KPIs are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes
* Ability to manage own caseload and time
* Evidence of working in the local community
* Experience working with patients experiencing physical health conditions
* Working with patients in group sessions


Knowledge

* Ability to attend to learning and apply in practice
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone skills
* Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with patients
* Knowledge and understanding of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
