Overview

Are you looking for a job that’s as good for your career as it is for the planet?

Promethean Particles is a global pioneer in the development and scale manufacturing of high-specification advanced materials. Our mission is to help decarbonise the world by unleashing the potential of metal-organic frameworks.

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a MOF Synthetic Chemist to join Promethean’s Research and Development (R&D) team, supporting our pioneering work into the research, development and large-scale manufacture of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).

Working collaboratively with Promethean’s broader R&D and manufacturing teams, you will play a core role in the development of synthetic methods for a range of industrially relevant MOFs. You will generate understanding into their controlled synthesis, effective processing, and analytical characterisation, before supporting their transition to production at the kilogram and tonne scale.

Responsibilities

Key Areas Of Responsibility

The successful candidate should be excited at the prospect of playing a central role in Promethean’s mission to unleash the power of MOFs. They should recognise the need to work with intent and urgency in this rapidly evolving area, prioritising needs above wants, and appreciate the importance of effective teamwork and open communication when working in a small team.

Qualifications

* A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline, with PhD, post-doctoral or industrial experience considered an advantage.
* Experience in the synthesis of MOFs, with knowledge of other solid sorbents and continuous flow synthesis is considered an advantage.
* Experience in the experimental characterisation of MOFs, including techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD), surface area measurements, particle size analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and electron microscopy.
* Experience in the processing of synthesised MOFs from suspension to solid state, including activation techniques, with experience in forming techniques (e.g. granulation, pelletising) considered an advantage.
* An understanding of the application of MOFs for gas separations, with knowledge of MOFs for carbon capture, biogas upgrading and other applications considered an advantage.
* A sound appreciation for the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) implications of working in a laboratory environment, including familiarity with risk and COSHH assessments.
* An ability to proactively prioritise work across multiple projects within tight timelines, managing stakeholder expectations where appropriate.
* An ability to effectively communicate results and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, through a variety of formats (written reports, presentations, etc.).
* Experience creating, revising, and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes.
* A willingness to travel, in support of conference or customer attendance (< 10% of time).
* A right to work in the UK without restriction, as this role does not come with visa sponsorship.

Benefits
