We’re looking for a Portering & Waste Compliance Manager who will be responsible for the efficient and safe management of all portering services within a busy hospital environment, ensuring exceptional patient movement and waste management services. You will lead a large team, working collaboratively with clinical and operational stakeholders to support a 24/7 healthcare setting and deliver a high-quality, patient-focused service.
Role Responsibilities
* Lead, recruit, train and develop a large portering team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on professionalism, wellbeing and patient-centred care
* Manage staffing rotas across a 24/7 operation, ensuring adequate coverage, fairness, and effective application of HR policies and performance management processes
* Oversee the central portering control room to ensure efficient allocation, dispatch and tracking of tasks across hospital departments
* Ensure the safe, compliant and timely movement of patients, equipment, specimens, medical gases, waste and supplies in line with infection control, COSHH and health & safety standards
* Build strong working relationships with clinical teams, estates, security and external partners, acting as the main point of contact for portering and waste-related services
* Oversee waste management operations and contracts, driving compliance, resolving service issues and leading continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Portering Supervisor or Manager, or within a similar logistics-based role
* Strong knowledge of waste management and compliance
* Experience of working within a hospital or healthcare environment
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
* Strong people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams
