Job Description Riverside School is an expanding ASN secondary provision supporting young people with complex learning and communication needs. The school promotes a nurturing and highly personalised curriculum underpinned by positive relationships, wellbeing, inclusion, and communication access for all learners. The creation of these posts supports the continued expansion of the school, accommodating increased pupil numbers. We are looking for flexible, adaptable primary or secondary qualified educators who demonstrate unconditional positive regard and hold high expectations for our young people. We are looking to fill: - 1 x Full-Time Post (1.0 FTE / 35 hours per week) - 1 x Part-Time Post (0.6 FTE / 21 hours per week) Job Purpose & Key Responsibilities To deliver high-quality learning and teaching within Riverside School, supporting young people with complex Additional Support Needs within a nurturing, inclusive, and communication-friendly environment. The postholder will contribute to the development of highly personalised learning experiences which promote wellbeing, communication, engagement, achievement, and positive destinations for all learners. Main Duties include: - Learning & Teaching: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, specialised teaching across the eight curricular areas of the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), utilising a Total Communication approach and rigorously tracking learner progress via our school assessment frameworks. - Targeted Support: Support the implementation of Educational Support Plans (ESPs), SCERTS approaches, and individual learner targets. - Total Communication: Actively use a range of Total Communication strategies including visuals, AAC, Makaton, communication aids, and differentiated approaches. - Classroom Environment: Create nurturing, structured, and inclusive classroom environments that support learner wellbeing, engagement, regulation, and restorative approaches. - Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents/carers, and partner agencies to improve outcomes for young people. Participate fully in collegiate working and school improvement priorities. - Focus on Outdoor Learning and Outdoor Education Essential Criteria: - Registration & Qualifications: Full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). - ASN knowledge and understanding of Additional Support Needs, inclusive practices, and nurturing environments. - Outdoor Learning Commitment: A strong commitment to delivering high-quality outdoor education experiences, utilising community and outdoor environments to support learner engagement and wider achievement. - Experiential Curriculum: Understanding of how experiential, practical, and skills-based learning can support communication, confidence, and independence for young people with complex ASN. - Relational Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with young people and families, utilising excellent communication and teamwork skills. Desirable Criteria: - Experience working within dedicated ASN school settings. - Practical knowledge of Total Communication approaches, AAC, ESPs, SCERTS, and assessment tools like BSquared Connecting Steps. - Understanding of trauma-informed and relational practice. - Knowledge of therapeutic interventions (e.g., Lego Therapy, Forest Schools, etc.).
