Consultant Public Health Nurse

A unique and exciting opportunity for a 0 to 19 Public Health Nurse Consultant is available in Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The role will be underpinned by four pillars, providing expert clinical leadership, education and research to improve outcomes for babies, children, young people and their families living in Croydon.

The Consultant will collaborate with partner agencies across the system and with the Croydon Public Health Consultant to identify population health needs, reduce health inequalities, develop staff and contribute to service development and leading quality improvement initiatives.

The Consultant will demonstrate strong leadership and support Health Visitors and School Nurses to realise their full potential as autonomous practitioners, understanding the health needs of the local population and individual families.

The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Director of Nursing and the 0 to 19 public health nursing senior management team to develop a service responsive to the needs of children, young people and families of Croydon.


Main Duties and Functions

* Expert Practice Function: Deliver high quality care, enable other practitioners to maintain professional expertise, and exercise a high degree of personal autonomy within their role.
* Professional Leadership and Consultancy Function: Demonstrate leadership skills that support and motivate others, continuously improve the quality of care and standards of practice, and act as a source of expertise and knowledge for others.
* Practice, Service Development, Research and Evaluation Function: Contribute to the development of professional practice through promotion of evidence‑based practice, audit of standards of care, research and evaluation, and manage and deliver specific programmes including financial and staffing resources.
* Education, Training and Development Function: Contribute to the training and education of others, establish formal links with education providers, and develop qualified staff in their specialist field.

Person Specification


Essential Education and Qualifications

* Registered Nurse
* Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
* Leadership / management qualification or proven track record in professional leadership/management role
* Significant experience at a senior level for clinical/operational management
* Evidence of completion of Masters (M.A. or M.Sc.) or on the pathway to completion
* Evidence of relevant and recent CPD


Knowledge and Understanding

* Ability to demonstrate significant experience in Public Health Nursing practice including responsibility for aspects of care management, managing a clinical area, leading elements of service provision and supporting staff in the clinical environment
* Evidence of sustained implementation of change management projects
* Published material
* Experience of teaching HEI & clinically
* Excellent academic writing skills
* Evidence of innovative practice that involves research and audit
* Evidence of coordinating research projects


Experience

* Evidence of managing people
* Evidence of effective negotiating skills
* Evidence of multi‑agency working
* Demonstrable achievement in: changing clinical practice, developing professional staff, organisational change, leadership, teaching, mentorship, project management
