Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools, Sheffield Area
Employer/Agency: PK Education
Location: Sheffield and surrounding areas (South Yorkshire)
Contract: Term-time only, full time or part time options available
Start Date: ASAP
Why join us?
At our partner primary schools in the Sheffield area, you’ll have the chance to work with wonderful children who have additional needs, helping them to access learning, grow in confidence and reach their potential. We believe in creating inclusive, engaging school environments where everyone is supported. This role offers you the opportunity to make a real difference
We pride ourselves on being friendly, professional and dedicated — you’ll receive excellent support from our team and be matched to schools where your skills and passions can shine.
The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Work under the guidance of class teachers and SENCo to support pupils with additional educational needs (SEN) in a primary school setting (typically Key Stage 1 & 2).
Support children either 1:1 or in small groups, adapting learning materials and activities to suit their needs.
Monitor pupil progress, share feedback with the teacher/SENCo and help implement strategies to support learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
Promote independence, social skills and positive behaviour in the classroom, playground and other school spaces.
Work collaboratively with the school team, parents/carers and external professionals as required.
Contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive and safe learning environment in which every pupil feels valued.
What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally have:
Experience working in a primary school environment or with children with additional needs (though training will be offered if you’re enthusiastic and committed).
Patience, empathy and a positive outlook — you enjoy supporting children to succeed, whatever their starting point.
Good communication skills — able to work as part of a team and build rapport with children and colleagues alike.
A flexible “can-do” attitude: willingness to adapt, take direction, and respond to changing needs in the classroom.
An understanding (or desire to learn) of special educational needs—whether that’s dyslexia, ADHD, ASD or other.
A relevant qualification / TA experience is helpful but not essential — attitude counts.
Full UK right to work and an enhanced DBS check (or be willing to obtain one through us).
Competitive pay and the option of full-time or part-time hours to suit your lifestyle.
Term-time working only (no school holidays) so you have your commute, evenings and school breaks.
Ongoing support, training and professional-development opportunities — we believe in helping you grow in your role.
A friendly, responsive recruitment team that values you and your contribution
The chance to make a tangible difference in children’s lives – helping them to thrive, not just survive.
