Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Sheffield Salary: £460 – £600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? A welcoming school in Sheffield is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners. About the Role: As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored interventions, promote engagement in learning, and help maintain a calm and structured classroom environment. Responsibilities: • Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, promoting engagement and participation in lessons. • Implement personalised support plans and behaviour strategies to encourage positive outcomes. • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and targeted interventions. • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support emotional regulation and well-being. • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and achievements in line with school policies. • Support students during transitions, break times, and extracurricular activities where required. Qualifications: • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is desirable. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations. • Understanding of behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed approaches is beneficial. • A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting diverse learning needs.
