Apprentice Healthcare Science Practitioner – Nuclear Medicine B5‑Annex 21
Gain a B.Sc. Healthcare Science Degree while qualifying as a Nuclear Medicine Practitioner. You will work with patients in a multidisciplinary team, diagnosing and treating disease using radionuclides and radiation.
Apprenticeship Details
You will complete a 3‑year integrated B.Sc. Degree in Healthcare Science (nuclear medicine) at the University of the West of England, Bristol. The course includes three one‑week residential periods each year and online study.
Entry requirements: GCSE Grade C or above in English, Mathematics and Double Science; A‑level Grade C or above in Chemistry or Biology; a pass in another science subject. Equivalent qualifications or professional experience may also be accepted.
Main Duties
* Provide specialised clinical technical services for patients and support medical equipment.
* Ensure Trust standards and infection control guidelines are followed.
* Identify and troubleshoot malfunctions of complex equipment and carry out service, repair and calibration.
* Respond promptly and professionally to patient emergencies.
* Carry out tests in accordance with protocol.
* Work within Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to their review and implementation.
* Participate in discussions on policy and procedure changes to maintain and improve service quality.
* Complete the full apprenticeship programme and undertake work‑based experience to communicate complex technical information verbally and in writing.
Qualifications
* Meeting the entry requirements for a Healthcare Science (nuclear medicine) B.Sc. (hons).
* English and Maths qualifications at Level 2 (GCSE Grades 9‑4 or A*-C).
* Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology relevant to nuclear medicine.
* Experience working with patients and in a Nuclear Medicine service.
* Strong numeracy, accuracy, communication and IT skills.
* Manual dexterity, ability to manage workload and respond calmly to emergencies.
