Job Overview
As Assistant People Operations Manager, you will play a key role in delivering and continuously improving people operations at Co‑op Live, with a particular focus on workforce planning, employee relations, and casual workforce experience.
Department: People Ops Salaried. Location: Co‑op Live.
Key Responsibilities
* Workforce Planning & Optimisation – Lead the development and delivery of staffing plans and event rosters, ensuring the right resource is in place to meet demand, productivity targets and budget expectations.
* Event‑Day Operations – Oversee the end‑to‑end delivery of event‑day staffing, ensuring smooth, efficient and compliant operations across accreditation, deployment, time & attendance and workforce logistics.
* Operational Partnership – Work closely with operational leaders to align workforce strategy with event delivery, proactively managing gaps, no‑shows and reducing reliance on agency.
* Data & Performance Insight – Use workforce data and reporting to identify trends, improve planning accuracy and drive continuous improvement in efficiency and performance.
* Systems & Process Integrity – Ensure accuracy and consistency across people systems, including Humanforce, onboarding and payroll, resolving discrepancies and improving processes.
* Employee Relations & Support – Act as a key point of contact for the casual workforce, supporting day‑to‑day queries and partnering with managers to ensure a fair and consistent approach to ER matters.
* Training & Workforce Development – Collaborate with Training & Development to ensure team members are set up for success, identifying opportunities to build capability and strengthen the workforce.
* Compliance & Governance – Ensure adherence to UK employment legislation, company policies and audit requirements, proactively managing risk and maintaining robust records.
* Culture & Engagement – Champion a positive, inclusive culture, supporting engagement, wellbeing and recognition initiatives to enhance the overall employee experience.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
* Proven experience in staff scheduling or workforce planning, ideally within hospitality, events, or a casual labour environment.
* Proficient in using workforce management or time & attendance systems (e.g. Humanforce).
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage high‑volume rostering, respond to last‑minute changes, and remain calm under pressure.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to respond to queries from a large and diverse casual workforce with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
* Basic understanding of payroll processes, including timesheet validation and query resolution.
* Confident using MS Office, especially Excel, and comfortable working with data.
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity, welfare and staff engagement, including experience supporting reward and recognition activity or wellbeing initiatives.
* Willing and able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, in line with event schedules.
