Role Purpose;
Responsible for providing overall construction management and on-site co-ordination of the multi-system HVAC packages on a £40m+ nuclear project.
Lead the construction activities on the project, ranging from briefings, RAMS, setting people to work, managing all subcontract works on site, managing the site managers (subordinates) and ensuring the project is run safely, to the correct quality standard, and to programme.
Measuring and monitoring progress on-site and providing regular progress updates during monthly MPR reviews.
Required to liaise with a wide range of personnel on the project including; the commercial team, quality team, design team, procurement team, direct workforce, subcontractors, supply chain, HSE Manager / Advisor, Planner.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Construction Manager, you will have the following accountabilities:
Lead the site-based project team and manage the supply chain to deliver the project to time, cost, and quality targets and standards.
Ensure safety targets and standards are maintained by:
Implementing a safe system of work including RAMS and Work Package Plans.
Knowing what safety excellence looks like and communicate safety with passion and credibility in order to inspire, motivate and lead the project team to achieve the vision.
Fostering a continuous improvement culture by actively seeking input from all members of the project team and encouraging them to implement safety improvements.
Ensure sustainability targets and standards are achieved by:
Knowing what sustainability excellence looks like and communicate sustainability with passion.
Actively engaging with the customer to understand and deliver their key sustainability objectives.
Promoting Sustainable Solutions around all operations, particularly those related to efficient management of Waste, Energy and Water.
Leading effective Community Engagement Plans and Skills Programmes where required.
Ensure quality targets and standards are achieved by:
Knowing what right first time delivery looks like and inspire the workforce to deliver things right first time (to specification and snag free).
Understanding and monitoring the stages of quality control procedures.
Actively engaging with the customer to understand their quality and inspection requirements.
Ensure that the project programme is robust. Ensure project resources are optimised and timescales are communicated effectively to the project team.
Manage Sub Contractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress; providing direct instruction and support as necessary such that contractual arrangements are achieved.
Appreciate the commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate these into decision making working closely with the Commercial team.
Liaise with the Senior Project Manager to ensure they are fully aware of project progress and is notified of all financial, specification and time risks ensuring that all additional work is identified.
Proactively assist with managing the customer relationship during delivery, including change and decision making to effectively manage expectations.
Who we're looking for
The following experience/qualifications are required: -
Previous Construction Management experience on HVAC nuclear projects (preferably Sellafield).
Extensive HVAC experience; preferably a time served HVAC installer.
Recognised experience of both low and high integrity ductwork systems (both galvanised and stainless steel construction).
Extensive experience of managing subcontractors and setting people to work safely.
Extensive experience of both writing and monitoring safe systems of work (i.e. RAMS).
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of industry HVAC standards such as DW144.
Black (Managers) CSCS Card.
NVQ in Construction / Site Management (Level 3 minimum) or equivalent.
SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely.
Ability to communicate effectively is required in order to manage customer relationships, in addition to planning and organisation skills to deliver operational excellence and efficiency.
Effective leadership skills, including experience of leading teams and confidence in the ability to lead, influence and communicate with others to deliver targets are required.
Must have a basic understanding of contract management and know when to escalate issues that potentially have a financial impact to the Senior Project Manager and/or Commercial Team.
Must be able to obtain basic security clearance (BPSS).
Must have a good understanding of quality control systems and an understanding of the importance of right first time delivery.
Must be able to understand delivery programmes and demonstrate a track record of successfully delivering projects to a programme of works.
