Job Overview

NHS Highland – Salaried General Practitioner

Ballachulish Medical Practice

Part Time, Permanent – 25.2 hours per week (0.63WTE)

Salary scale £102,168 – £115,167 per annum

Plus

* £5,000 non-superannuable car allowance
* “Golden Hello” incentive is also available to eligible candidates

The Practice

Ballachulish Medical Practice is a friendly, rural practice serving a close-knit community in the Lochaber area. With a practice population of approximately 1,550, our footprint spans North Ballachulish to Kinlochleven, Glencoe, Duror and Appin, including a local nursing home with around 30 residents.

We operate a hybrid dispensing model, with acute medications dispensed in practice and repeats dispensed and delivered to the practice by local Community Pharmacies. We currently operate on EMIS but are scheduled to move to Vision Hosted as part of the planned, national GP IT re-provisioning programme.

The practice is at an exciting stage of growth and development, offering an excellent opportunity to shape services in a supportive, collaborative environment at the heart of a rural community. Strengthening links with our nearest board managed practices, working closely with Community Pharmacies and developing the skill-mix within the clinical team will help to support the resilience of the practice and ensure the continued delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality patient care.

The Role

* 0.63WTE (3 days per week)
* Working hours are within 08:00 – 18:00, with no out of hours commitment
* Work is shared across the day with a low home-visit rate

You will join a clinical team of 1.38WTE GPs (including this post) and 0.83WTE ANP (new post), contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care in a rewarding rural setting.

The Team

You will be supported by a committed, multidisciplinary team including:

* Supportive administrative and dispensing team led by an experienced Practice Manager
* Health Care Assistant
* First Contact Physiotherapist
* Excellent District Nursing Service
* Close links with palliative care services and local emergency services
* Pharmacy support
* Community Link Worker

The Location

Situated on the shores of Loch Leven and at the foot of the dramatic Glencoe mountain range, Ballachulish is around 20 minutes from Fort William and is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The local environment offers the very best of Scotland; ancient rainforest, rugged coastline, spectacular lochs and world‑class mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy walking, climbing, biking and winter sports, you may even be tempted to join a local shinty club.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

* Be GMC registered with a licence to practise
* Be on the GMC GP Register (or eligible within 6 months of interview date for GP Trainees)
* Be included on the NHS Highland GP Performers List (or eligible for inclusion prior to commencing in post)
* Hold MRCGP or equivalent qualification
* Be eligible to work in the UK
* Demonstrate commitment to high‑quality, patient‑centred general practice
* Be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team
* Have good IT and clinical systems skills (experience of EMIS desirable; support provided for transition to Vision)
