The Role & Key Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen to join the Security and Information Assurance Team working for both Surrey and Sussex Police Forces. In this role, you will be working to protect the Forces’ people, buildings and operational assets from threats, getting involved in a variety of interesting activities at both Team and Force level.

We are looking for applicants in this Coordinator role; to work from either Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes or from Surrey Police Headquarters in Guildford; although post holders will be expected to travel to a number of sites and locations which may or may not have available public transport links; travel will be reimbursed according to the home Force policy.

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference to keeping Surrey and Sussex safe. The guiding principle and focus of the Digital Data and Technology Department is to provide better and secure services to front‑line officers, staff and support functions to enable both forces to maintain their commitment to the public. The demands on policing are greater than ever before, against a backdrop of budget reductions and pressures that require us to examine our spending, whilst also safeguarding our policing operations, citizen data, and infrastructure against evolving cyber and physical threats.

The Role

If you are passionate about protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of sensitive data, we have just the opportunity for you! In this role, you can play your part in delivering a secure service to the public by ensuring the data we are entrusted to hold is protected.

Join our team of Security and Information Assurance Coordinators, where you will influence the Forces’ approach to Information and protective Security. As a Coordinator, you will be the first point of contact to the Security and Information Assurance Team. You will provide advice, guidance and education to the wider Forces in areas of security and information assurance, to build and improve a Force‑wide security culture.

You will be helping to protect the Forces from security threats to minimise their impact on policing operations, as well as assess and review the Force’s physical security controls against security standards and best practice.

The role will suit an enthusiastic person with a natural interest in security and information assurance who has a strong desire to learn and develop a career in the field. The stated experience level is a guide and does not preclude applications from candidates with more or less experience, provided the requisite skills can be demonstrated.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide ad‑hoc technical support and advice with regard to general enquiries coming into the Team.
* Conduct physical security reviews of the Forces’ buildings and premises.
* Assist with the preparation, update and delivery of security culture and awareness training to Force personnel.
* Conduct research and situational awareness across all areas of protective security including threat scanning, cyber best practices, new security technologies and products.
* Complete supplier and third‑party assurance assessments.
* Manage and maintain the Team’s Security Plan including keeping records of audits, breaches, and reviews.
* Manage requests for new and withdrawn access cards and maintain the upkeep of individual access rights.

Skills & Experience

* An in‑depth knowledge of cyber and physical security risks, as well as a strong interest in security concepts and standards with a willingness to learn and develop security knowledge and skills.
* Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), with the ability to research and present information in a meaningful and engaging manner.
* An analytical mind‑set and a natural curiosity, meticulous and thorough with a good attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and projects.

Benefits

Benefits include:

* Contributory pension scheme (LGPS)
* Generous annual leave allowance
* Discounts for everyday spend
* On‑site gyms and a range of sports clubs
* Generous and supportive parental leave
* Financial and mental wellbeing guidance and support
* Discounted contributory healthcare scheme

The post holder must be prepared to undergo and maintain an enhanced level of security clearance as the role will involve having regular access to sensitive material and occasional access to particularly sensitive material such as intelligence on national security threats.

We are only as good as our people. It’s important that our officers and staff can be themselves in the workplace and we know that as an organisation we’ll grow from the variety of thinking, approach, and the skills that diversity brings; all of which help us to deliver a better policing service. We strive to ensure how we deliver our services, provide information and how we recruit is open and accessible to all.

We have multiple staff support groups who help to improve our understanding of minority issues and ensure they are reflected in our work. We are proud members of Disability Confident, hold Race Equality Matters Trailblazer status, are a signatory of the Race at Work Charter and are aligned with the Armed Forces Covenant and the HeForShe movement.

We are committed to being an anti‑racist police service. We promise to challenge injustice, ensure fairness and to uphold anti‑racist principles in both our organisation and our communities.

We value the differences that people bring from all backgrounds and communities. Regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, disability, social status, or religious belief, we would love to hear from you.

This post is being advertised in parallel with Force redeployment processes. Any redeployees who are identified will be given preference. This may result in the post being withdrawn at any point during the recruitment process.

Please note that not all jobs are available for internal candidates across both Forces, the current agreed recruitment principles are;

* vacancies in collaborated units are available to all officers and staff across both Forces
* vacancies in non‑collaborated units are only available to officers and staff within the Force with the vacancy unless it is advertised externally
* if the vacancy is advertised externally and an officer or member of staff from the other Force is successful it will result in a transfer of employment

Surrey Police and Sussex Police Special Constables, Volunteers and Agency Staff (excluding self employed workers) covered under the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) are eligible to apply for internal advertised posts.
