The Role:
This is a senior-level position, ideal for an experienced professional who thrives on
serious negotiation and commercial management
. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects are financially successful, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers. Importantly, this role does
not involve line management
, it's about technical expertise, negotiation, and delivering results.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead on cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for construction projects.
* Be a negotiating QS bull dog
* Prepare tender and contract documentation (JCT/NEC).
* Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to secure best value.
* Manage variations, valuations, and final accounts.
* Provide strategic commercial advice to project teams and directors.
* Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and quality standards.
Requirements:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent. (would be ideal)
* Chartered status (MRICS or similar) preferred. (Also ideal but not essential)
* Minimum 7+ years' experience in construction cost management, negotiation in a similar SME QS role.
* VERY strong negotiation skills with proven commercial acumen.
* Excellent knowledge of contracts
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
