Smoke Free Lead - Health Visiting Service
An exciting opportunity to provide leadership and specialist expertise to reduce smoking prevalence and protect children and families from the harms of tobacco smoke across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
As Smoke Free Lead within the Public Health Nursing Service, you will work at a service and system level with Health Visitors, to support the consistent identification of smoking, strengthening evidence-based behaviour change conversations, and promote effective referral to local stop smoking services.
The role plays a key part in supporting the implementation of the Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council Smoke Free Homes pathways. Working collaboratively with local authority partners and health visiting service leads, you will lead workforce development, contribute to quality improvement and support monitoring of outcomes, with a strong focus on reducing health inequalities.
You will be line managed by a Chartered Health Psychologist, offering supervision and a psychologically informed approach to public health practice.
Main duties of the job
* Providing specialist leadership and expertise in smoking cessation, tobacco control and behaviour change within the Public Health Nursing Service.
* Working with Health Visitors at a service and system level to support consistent identification of smoking, brief interventions and referral to stop smoking services.
* Leading and supporting implementation of the Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council Smoke Free Homes maternity and health visiting pathways with local authority partners.
* Designing, delivering and coordinating training and workforce development to build confidence in behaviour change conversations.
* Contributing to quality improvement, monitoring and reporting, using data to inform service development and demonstrate impact.
* Maintaining partnership working across BNSSG to align practice with local and national public health priorities.
The role requires:
* Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to work across organisational boundaries.
* Sound knowledge of behaviour change theory, evidence-based smoking cessation practice and approaches to reducing inequalities.
* Experience in training, coaching or workforce development to support practice change.
* Analytical and organisational skills to support pathway development, monitoring and service improvement.
* A proactive, reflective and collaborative approach, with a commitment to prevention, equity and continuous improvement.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* A Degree or PG Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) or a smoking cessation or health related professional qualification to at least level 6 of the qualifications framework (degree with honours)
* Training that shows evidence of specialist knowledge and experience related to smoking cessation interventions and behaviour change
Skills, Experience and Knowledge
* In depth knowledge of how smoking contributes to health inequalities
* Robust understanding of behaviour change theory or willingness to undertake training in this area
* Experience developing and delivering high quality training programmes to staff and / or stakeholders
* Evidence of leadership experience, for example leading a project or mentoring a student
* Experience delivering community based stop smoking services
