Job Description: Credit Control and Accounts Payable Team Leader

The Role
You will primarily be responsible for the credit control of a key section of our UK business.
In addition, as the Credit Control and Accounts Payable Team Leader, you will have direct responsibility for the credit control team and accounts payable team, ensuring timely collections, accurate payments, and strong relationships with our diverse customer base.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Controller
oAllocation of receipts to individual accounts
oFocus on minimising aged debt while maintaining strong customer relationships, contacting clients to remind them of outstanding debts via phone or email.
oMaintaining credit hold accounts, obtaining payment & releasing orders as necessary.
oFull communication with external sales executives, generating any necessary credit reviews, making your own recommendations.
oOversee the management of customer ledgers, including reduction of outstanding debt.
oMonitor payment patterns, assess credit risks, and implement proactive measures to prevent indebtedness without impacting sales growth.
oEnsure accurate and timely recording, reporting, ledger balances, and account reconciliations.
oCollaborate with sales teams to align credit policies with business objectives and customer needs.
oContinuously review and enhance credit control systems, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency and standards.
Leadership & Team Management
oLead, motivate, and develop a team of credit controllers and accounts payable colleagues, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
oProvide ongoing training, mentorship, and performance management to ensure team success.
oProvide regular reports on credit control and accounts payable performance, including debtor days, aged debt, and supplier payment metrics.
Accounts Payable
oOversee the accounts payable processes, monitoring cash flow implications and work closely with the finance team to optimise payment schedules.
oEnsure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and regulatory requirements.
oContinuously review accounts payable systems and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Skills
oProven experience in credit control, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. Experience or awareness of Accounts Payable processes advantageous.
oExperience working in FMCG businesses, with diverse customer groups. As well as hospitality, or wholesale industries knowledge (wine or beverages a plus).
oStrong understanding of financial processes, including ledger management, reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting.
oAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software, (e.g., Sage, Xero, or similar). In addition, experience of EDI and portals.
