We are recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within themercial decarbonisation and offsite energy solutions sector. With operations spanning the UK, Ireland, and Europe, they are well established in designing and delivering innovative low‑carbon and prefabricated mechanical and energy systems. Their Birmingham (Solihull) office is home to a growing multidisciplinary design function, responsible for creating coordinated, build‑ready solutions that support the transition towards sustainable, low‑carbon technologies.
Your new role
As the new Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take a senior position within the Design Team, leading mechanical design output across a variety ofmercial decarbonisation projects. You’ll manage designs from early concept development through tomissioning support, ensuring technical accuracy and seamless integration with fabrication, BIM, project management, andmissioning teams.You will also play a key part in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to best‑practice standards across the department.Core responsibilities include:
1. Leading mechanical design delivery across multiplemercial projects
2. Producing schematics, engineering calculations, plant selections, bills of materials and specifications
3. Developing and validating BMS/control strategies from design through to on‑site implementation
4. Supporting coordinated design development with internal and external stakeholders
This is a full‑time role working Monday–Thursday 8am–5pm and Friday 8am–3pm, reporting directly to the Head of Design.
What you'll need to succeed
To excel in this role, you should have:
5. Significant experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within building services, energy systems, or decarbonisation solutions
6. Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, low‑carbon technologies, and prefabricated/offsite design approaches
7. Proficiency in producing detailed mechanical calculations and technical documentation
8. Experience developing BMS or control strategy designs
9. The ability to lead design delivery while supporting and guiding junior engineers
10. Strongmunication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
