Overview
The Mildred Creak Unit is a children's inpatient mental health unit within The Psychological and Mental Health Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. The Unit cares for young people aged 7–13 years with severe and complex mental health difficulties. An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6). Applications are welcome from Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Paediatric Nurses, and/or Learning Disability nurse backgrounds. Previous CAMHS experience is essential.
The role involves working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team. The working model is based on the Therapeutic Milieu. You will be required to work with dedicated nurses and a wide range of other disciplines. Clear communication and strong organisational skills are essential.
Responsibilities
* Support a structured routine for the young people to provide containment for the family and the young person, including weekly nurse-led teaching, group discussions, MDT meetings, monthly team reflective meetings, and a weekly facilitated nurse support meeting.
* Contribute to a therapeutic approach in every interaction, provide monthly individual supervision, and support nurses in providing greater autonomy and collaboration in treatment.
* Support junior nursing staff and encourage their development, including staff nurses from child and mental health backgrounds, experienced therapeutic care workers and healthcare assistants.

Person Specification
* Essential Academic/Professional qualification/Training: NMC Registered Nurse (appropriate to clinical specialty); relevant nursing qualification; evidence of ongoing professional development relating to clinical specialty
* Desirable: Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience
