Job Summary:

Job Title

Certifier - Trainee Certification Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of a qualified Certifier, completes certification projects and related tasks primarily of a non-complex nature. Makes assisted technical decisions based on knowledge, training and experience on certification and testing to maintain the integrity of CSA Global Certification programs.

Working Relationships

1. Reports to Product Group Manager (PGM) or Team Leader or Assistant Operations Manager
2. Demonstrates ability as a 'team player' by looking for ways they can support others as they are involved in activities for their own development

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

PERFORMANCE

4. Handles a narrow spectrum of projects
5. Conducts construction evaluation, ensuring the unit complies with the construction section of the standard; identifies rationale for compliance or non-compliance.
6. Collaborates with Lab Technician to create a work order which test are required and; the order of the tests and the number of samples required.
7. Classifies product by use, environment and function. Determines the applicable requirements / test / standard. Determines sample requirements and method / location for testing evaluation best suited to customers' needs. Conducts pre-assessment with mentor assistance, of equipment to ensure the unit is equipped with the proper components and agrees with the construction indicated on the work order and submittal information.
8. Works with mentor to ensure completion or projects within time frame deadlines. With mentor assistance, evaluates products against requirements of national and / or international standards. With assistance, prepares work orders for the test program. Works in collaboration with Lab personnel to determine applicable tests. Assists test personal and perform test when required.
9. Prepares Findings Communications, Certification reports, Certificates of Compliance and other related CSA documentation for the mentor.

CUSTOMER

10. As appropriate, suggests to sales team new client opportunities to support growth
11. Prepares project quotations for cost and time. Classifies product by use, environment and function. Determines applicable requirements / test / standards. With supervision, determines sample requirements and method / location for testing / evaluation best suited to customers’ needs.
12. Explains the different product certification programs available to clients and the requirements for control of production.
13. Provides client feedback to mentor, Manager, Team Leader, Project Holder or Sales Rep as appropriate.

TESTING

14. Prepares Test Lab Work Orders.
15. Provides necessary guidance to Lab Technicians to ensure proper application of requirements and data collections methods are in line.
16. Demonstrates an understanding of the test method for common tests and ability to correctly specify a test plan.
17. Demonstrates the ability to record and report evaluation, tests and calculations capturing all relevant data required by each standard with supervision.
18. Conducts witness test programs at manufacturer’s accredited laboratory as needed with supervision.

SELF DEVELOPMENT

19. Strives to become more knowledgeable in national / international standards through research of standards, documentation, bulletins and technical articles in area of specialty. Participates in formal, informal, and team training events to expand capabilities.
20. Seeks to understand and plan for own development needs in line with this competency matrix and the tests they are assigned to perform
21. Performs other duties as assigned by mentor, Manager, Team Leader, or Project Manager.

Work Environment

22. This position requires regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Company policies. Additionally, the ability to work overtime, as necessary, is required.
23. Some computer screen eye strain.
24. Concentration required to evaluate products, review standards and analyze test results.
25. Extended periods of sitting during meetings and office work (often).
26. Mix of standing, sitting and walking during lab time and examination of equipment.
27. Occasionally exposed to dirty / hazardous environments at client facilities.
28. Position may require travel out of town.

Preferred Education & Experience

29. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; or Degree / Diploma in Engineering Technology or related technical field
30. Knowledge of CSA, UL and IEC Standards would be beneficial
31. Knowledge of CSA certification options, programs and services applicable to a variety of equipment would be beneficial
32. High level of interpersonal and communication skills; customer service skills, strong problem-solving ability; detail oriented
33. Strong organizational, time and project management skills to complete job tasks independently and in a time-efficient manner
34. Reads, interprets and develops engineering drawings
35. Technical report writing
36. Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
