Role Overview: The Head of Delivery Operations will lead the operational delivery of all projects, ensuring that our standards for safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance are met. This is a portfolio-level role, providing leadership to Construction and Commissioning Managers, Planning & Project Controls, and Document Control, while liaising directly with the Project Delivery Director and Board. You will own the delivery strategy, governance, and performance of multiple projects, ensuring resource allocation, risk management, and effective reporting. You will not be managing day-to-day site activities, but you will be accountable for the performance of the teams that do. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership and functional line management to Construction and Commissioning Managers, Planning & Project Controls, and Document Control. Oversee delivery across multiple projects, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule performance. Identify underperformance, resource gaps, and project risks, and intervene to bring projects back on track. Develop and implement delivery standards, procedures, and processes across the business. Support the Board and Project Delivery Director with portfolio reporting, KPIs, dashboards, and gated process governance. Guide and develop senior project leaders, Construction Managers, and commissioning staff. Advise on subcontractor selection and resource planning across projects. Essential Qualifications & Experience: MSc in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline. IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH Certificate; SMSTS. Proven senior construction management experience, ideally within water, wastewater, or complex infrastructure projects. Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects, manage senior site leaders, and deliver on a portfolio level. Strong planning and project controls experience; able to implement dashboards and milestone reporting. Personal Attributes: Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing at board level. Strategic thinker, proactive problem-solver, and operationally focused. Confident in making difficult decisions and challenging underperformance. Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
