Job Description and Person Specification: Play Worker

Job Purpose:
To be an active team member within the setting and in doing so, to provide a full range of play activities and opportunities appropriate to the age and development of each child. To ensure that children feel valued and respected and engage in the provision to their full potential.
Principle duties and responsibilities:
A. Play provision
* To plan and deliver structured, safe, creative, constructive and appropriate play opportunities in line with operational practice and process within the club.
* To ensure that all physical, emotional, cultural and religious needs are met through play opportunities provided
* To appropriately manage behaviour of all children within the setting in line with Roundabout policies and procedures
* To set up and clear away after activities as required
* To ensure that all children actively participate in their own development through play by encouraging them to share their ideas and views and act on them as appropriate.
B. Health Safety and Standards
* To always ensure the health and safety of all children within the setting in line with statutory requirements and Roundabout policies and procedures taking direction from the Manager as necessary
* To maintain appropriate standards of safeguarding/child protection within the setting in line with statutory requirements and Roundabout policies and procedures
* To ensure the safe collection of children in accordance with Roundabout policies and procedures
* To maintain appropriate standards of food hygiene and take account of individual dietary needs in line with statutory requirements and Roundabout policies and procedures when handling food within the setting.
* To always maintain confidentiality regarding information about children, families and other team members within the club
C. Communication and relationships with stakeholders
* To develop a rapport and relationship with each child in the setting based upon their individual needs and personalities.
* To proactively develop relationships with parents and carers by taking opportunities to speak to them when they collect their children.
* To develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff from Round Hill School throughout the delivery of the day-to-day responsibilities of the role.
D. Teamwork
* To play a full and active part in the work of the team through participation in team meetings
* To support other team members as required
* To support the Manager by actively contributing ideas at all stages of the day-to-day operation of the club

Personal Specification
Education and qualifications
* Hold a relevant Level 2 qualification in Play work (or equivalent qualification)

Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate with a range of different audiences e.g. children, parents and colleagues.
* Reliability demonstrated through a proven track record in previous employment and/or volunteering.
* Self motivation and ability to work on own initiative.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Commitment to and understanding of and willingness to promote inclusion for all children.
* Knowledge and understanding of how to create appropriate play opportunities for children within the age range 4-11.
* Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding/Child Protection legislation and/or practice.
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety legislation
Experience
Experience of working with children either in a paid or voluntary capacity
* Experience of working within a team either in a paid or voluntary capacity
* Experience of working in a similar setting to Roundabout out of school club
* Experience of working with the age range 4-11
* Experience of working in other settings with children
Other
* Required to undertake any other additional, relevant training and development as directed by the Manager and/or the Management Committee
* Required to submit to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)* Check
* Formerly Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
