Overview

Are you an experienced Data Analyst with a passion for employing your skills and experience to protect and enhance the environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of data analysts transforming the way data is assessed to strengthen intelligence-led regulation and drive improved performance of the Water Sector.

In this role you will be at the heart of work to deliver digital transformation, providing advanced data analytics capabilities at a national level to improve delivery of regulatory activities across the business.


Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain new tools and applications to analyse large sets of water company data, together with environmental information, to assess compliance against environmental permit conditions.
* Ensure quality and robustness of reported data and provide technical advice to improve data quality and processes in the future.
* Manage and deliver tasks to a high standard and within tight deadlines.
* Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to identify innovative solutions that support an evidence-led approach to Water Regulation.
* Embed new processes and tools within the business ensuring feedback and continuous development to meet changing needs.


Team and context

You will join the Digital Innovation and Regulation Team in Water Regulation, part of the National Environment and Business (E&B) directorate. We currently play a central role in shaping and delivering the Environment Agency’s data and evidence led approach to regulating Water Companies.


Experience/skills Required

* Experience leading innovative data initiatives from inception to completion, to improve business processes and performance.
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines through effective collaboration.
* Experience managing and analysing large datasets using tools like R, Python, FME, ArcGIS, and the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
* Excellent communication and presentation skills to work with stakeholders
* Ability to ensure data quality and compliance with relevant data governance standards.
* Able to work as part of a team, sharing skillsets to build resilience and ensuring processes are documented.


Desirable

* Experience of Microsoft Synapse and Fabric
* Experience in implementing best coding practices, including adherence to standard code style, use of functions, control flow, version control, and comprehensive code testing and documentation.
* Experience of collaborating within an agile team, sprint planning, peer reviews, and retrospectives to deliver high-quality, iterative data solutions.


Additional information

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible. Occasional travel and overnights will be required. Please see the Additional Information Pack. Competencies and questions (examples for interview)

Competence 1: Data and Information Management — Description: Collects, analyses, interprets, records, manages, develops and shares data, material or information appropriately for a variety of purposes. Please provide an example of where you have had to analyse and interrogate large sets of data and present your findings to a wider audience.

Competence 2: Takes Decisions and Solves Problems — Description: Finds and delivers optimal solutions by effectively analysing information, developing alternatives and taking sound decisions. Please give an example of a data analysis problem and the decision you took.

Competence 3: Focuses on Efficiency, Innovation and Quality — Description: Creates and implements new or improved data methods and processes without compromising quality. Please provide a recent example of introducing new data analytical methods to deliver an important outcome.
