The Role
The school is seeking a proactive and highly organized DT Technician to provide essential support to the Design & Technology department. You will play a vital role in ensuring that workshops are safe, materials are prepared, and equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
Your responsibilities will include the preparation of materials for practical lessons, the maintenance of hand tools and large machinery (lathes, bandsaws, etc.), and assisting students with the technical aspects of their GCSE and A-Level projects. You will also take a lead role in Health & Safety compliance, ensuring all workshops meet DATA (Design and Technology Association) standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing timbers, metals, and plastics for class use using industrial machinery.
* Maintaining and calibrating 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC routers.
* Organizing and managing stock levels, including ordering materials and consumables.
* Conducting regular safety checks and maintaining a clean, organized workshop environment.
* Assisting students during practical lessons to ensure safe and effective use of equipment.
* Supporting the department with displays and the setting up of specialized equipment.
Person Specification
* Previous experience as a DT Technician in a school or a similar industrial/workshop environment.
* Strong technical knowledge of woodworking and metalworking machinery.
* Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., 2D Design, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360).
* A clear understanding of Health & Safety regulations (COSHH and Risk Assessments).
* A "can-do" attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication skills and a patient approach when working with students.
