Environmentalist (HYBRID) needed in Belfast, £45ph PAYE - Reference: 456887 (1 day/week in office site visits as required) Contract: 3 months initially (potential for extension) Hours: 40 hours/week (flexible working considered) About the Role - We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to support the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in Northern Ireland, focusing on highway-related ecological surveys. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and deliver meaningful work in a supportive environment, with flexibility and autonomy. Key Responsibilities - • Lead and conduct ecological surveys, particularly for highways and rail-related projects. • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, especially regarding protected species. • Review and write high-quality ecological reports. • Collaborate with generalist and landscape colleagues to support programme delivery. • Apply cross-disciplinary species knowledge to a variety of projects. • Make informed, independent decisions in the field and office. You will Ideally - • Minimum 3–4 years of relevant ecological experience. • Qualified and competent to work on rail (PTS certification highly desirable). • Strong understanding of UK and NI wildlife legislation. • Proven ability to lead surveys and produce technical reports. • Full UK driving licence (vehicle can be provided for site work). • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload. This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis.
