 
        
        Overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to join the Environment Agency as a Senior Electrical Engineer with the Standards and Engineering team. The position focuses on electrical systems across high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage equipment, with a strong emphasis on control systems design and SCADA / telemetry.
Responsibilities
 * Lead technical engineering within the Standards, Asset Management & Engineering Directorate, shaping future service delivery.
 * Provide technical leadership across the organisation to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable assets meeting net‑zero commitments.
 * Develop, deliver and maintain electrical engineering standards including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
 * Develop competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
 * Act in a national incident response role, including out‑of‑hours commitments.
Qualifications
 * Working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations, BS 7671 and IET wiring regulations.
 * Experience with control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry/SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Practical testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems; confirming dead circuits.
 * Understanding of risk‑based electrical maintenance philosophies, FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
 * Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work‑management, teamwork and communication skills.
 * UK driving licence.
 * Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer registration with UK Engineering Council.
