Overview

As a Full Stack GIS Developer at Informed Solutions, you'll play a key role in shaping, building, and delivering innovative digital solutions that solve complex challenges in the public sector. The work you do will have a real and lasting impact on society, helping to make the UK healthier, safer, and more sustainable. You'll be part of an experienced and collaborative team, working on greenfield projects from the ground up and delivering enterprise-scale digital services for high-profile clients across multiple sectors. Collaboration is at the heart of how we work, and you'll partner closely with colleagues across Software Engineering, User-Centred Design, Delivery Management and Live Services to deliver exceptional outcomes. As a consultancy, we are proudly technology agnostic. This means our priority is designing the right solution using the most effective tools for the challenge at hand. Our teams work with a wide range of technologies including .NET, Java, Python, Node.js, AWS and Azure, giving you the opportunity to expand your skills, explore new technologies, and grow your career. Many of our projects also leverage Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and open-source geospatial tools, helping clients unlock the value of location data through innovative mapping and spatial analysis solutions.

Responsibilities

* Deliver high-quality solutions: Design, build, and continually improve software, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines for public and private sector clients, ensuring robustness and scalability. Projects may also include solutions with geospatial data, GIS platforms, and open-source mapping technologies.
* Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with Senior and Lead Engineers, Delivery Managers, and colleagues in User-Centred Design and Data Science to shape designs, contribute to documentation, and deliver against agreed plans.
* Ensure standards and best practice: Follow established approaches, provide accurate technical estimates, and escalate risks or issues where required.
* Communicate and build relationships: Present prototypes, solutions, and progress updates clearly to stakeholders, while building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and partner organisations.
* 3+ years' proven experience in a Full Stack Engineering role, with strong skills in .NET, Java or Python, plus modern JavaScript libraries.
* A collaborative mindset with experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Strong understanding of architectural and design patterns, including serverless and microservices.
* Hands-on experience working in Agile environments, using Scrum, Kanban and test-driven development (TDD).
* Experience with cloud platforms, ideally AWS or Azure, to design and deliver scalable solutions.
* Experience working with GIS systems or geospatial data, and familiarity with open-source mapping tools (e.g. Leaflet, OpenLayers, QGIS, GeoServer, PostGIS).
* Experience working in a consultancy environment, engaging with external stakeholders and clients.
* Exposure to public sector projects.
* Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and/or Terraform.
* Awareness of the GOV.UK Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice, and their application to geospatial systems in public sector projects.
* Able to work effectively in environments where you can adapt to innovative practices involving uncertainty, change, and agile working.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and your time so you can deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
* Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respect and accept different perspectives and disagreement, work collaboratively in diverse teams, and maintain positive working relationships.
* Good judgement and decision-making in complex environments where uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk must be collaboratively managed by working supportively alongside others.
* Good communication skills, including clear, constructive written outputs and measured, respectful verbal delivery.

Personal Qualities

* You use your experience to lead, coach and mentor more junior team members.
* You should excel at conveying complex technical concepts in a non-technical manner and facilitate trusted working relationships with stakeholders.
* You should have the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and be flexible in responding to changing needs and priorities.
* Excellent work planning capabilities and time management skills.
* Ability to balance conflicting deadlines and priorities.
* A meticulous attention to detail.
* Punctuality, reliability, and a clear commitment to your role.
