Role: Children's Support Worker (Orchard Court)

Location: Mirfield, WF14 0DQ

Salary: £12.31/hr

Hours: Part-time 30hrs (include alternate weekends)


Hollybank Trust, founded in 1954 has achieved a reputation of attaining very high care standards, working with children, young people and adults who have profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex needs.

Orchard Court is one of our dedicated children's residential services in Mirfield. It boasts seven accessible, en-suite rooms, all of which are wheelchair adapted and fitted with tracking hoists. It's a happy home and there's always lots going on - you'll usually find cake on offer too!

In addition to the children that reside with us on a permanent basis, the service also offers a respite provision for families. We are looking for some amazing people to join our team in Orchard Court to help us continue to provide high-quality, person-centred care to the children we support.

Main Responsibilities:

Role Specific



Development of autonomy



To work within key worker groups establish and maintain relationships with children and young people which will complement and contribute to their care programmes and create a pleasant, happy and safe living environment.



Ensuring effective communication with all parts of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure continuity and quality of care.




Communication



To communicate and offer choice and independence to the children and young people throughout all aspects of care whilst fully adhering to the Mental Capacity Act where necessary. Use appropriate interactions for both verbal and non-verbal communicating children and young people, enabling these people to utilise their maximum abilities to make personal choices on their everyday lives.




Nutritional Needs



To support children and young people to meet dietary requirements by utilising the appropriate feeding method, monitoring and encouraging food and fluid intake, giving the individual choice, independence and monitoring and communicating any concerns.



To prepare food for the children and young people following basic hygiene guidelines, ensuring the children and young people are involved and given as much independence and choice as possible.





Personal Care



To assist children and young people with all areas of personal hygiene, including continence management, bathing and dressing whilst following the Care Plan at all times. Ensuring that the highest levels of comfort, privacy and dignity are maintained for the individual.



To maintain a code of cleanliness and sanitation as outlined by the Trust infection control procedures





Medication



To administer medication following the Trust Policies and Procedures.





Manual Handling



To implement correct lifting and handling techniques in order to ensure the safety and comfort of children and young people, whilst ensuring that Trust guidelines are adhered to and correct equipment is used where appropriate.





Postural Management



To follow physiotherapy postural guidelines in order to prevent deterioration and to maintain each individual's physical condition.





Environment and Property



To ensure that the physical environment is safe and tidy, so that children and young people are comfortable and their property is secure in their own homes. Includes ensuring that all bedrooms and communal areas are clean and tidy and any maintenance issues are reported accordingly.





Social, Leisure and Community experience



To accompany and support children and young people to access social activities and leisure activities in order to improve social interaction skills and develop links with the community and to ensure individuals get the utmost enjoyment and development from the experience.





Documentation



To accurately document all necessary tasks on the required documentation (Kardex, Care Plans, MAR Sheets) in a timely manner, including further communications with other members of the team where necessary on essential aspects.



To monitor changes within the Care Plans to ensure consistent and high quality of care.



General



Best Practice



To maintain an awareness and keep updated with the latest initiatives and thinking, sharing new ideas with colleagues in order to improve organisation performance.





People Development



To participate in supervisions, PDRs and continuous training and development, and to seek ways of continually achieving self-development and career enhancement; to support the future skills requirements of the Trust. To ensure training needs are regularly identified and assessed and action is taken to develop skills including PDR's completed in a timely manner.





Attitude



To act as a professional and positive ambassador for Hollybank in order to support the Trust's mission and profile.





Policy promotion



To actively promote the Trust's Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Disability Awareness and Data Protection policies and all other existing policies. To ensure that the Trust operates effectively, fairly, and in line with legislative requirements at all times.





Risk Management



To assist the Head of Department in the process of developing risk management strategies in order to safeguard the interests of the Trust.





Safeguarding

To adhere to and follow the Trust's Safeguarding procedures in order to protect the safety of all young people

In line with the Data Protection Act you will see the use and safe sharing of information as part of their responsibility. You will ensure you work in line with our data protection and information governance policies and procedures protecting and respecting the privacy of our children, young people and adults.

To carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
