**This is a Cargo based role not Ground Handling
Swissport UKI is seeking a dynamic and experienced Cargo General Manager to lead operations at Cardiff Airport. This strategic leadership role oversees the full spectrum of cargo services, including freighter aircraft handling, warehouse operations, and road freight logistics.
You’ll be responsible for delivering operational excellence, driving performance against KPIs and SLAs, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
As the senior operational leader on site, you’ll report directly to the Station General Manager and serve as a key liaison between Swissport’s senior leadership, airline partners, and ground teams.
Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing?
1. Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Security, and QA standards
2. Promote a proactive safety culture and lead incident investigations
3. Monitor and improve KPIs, SLAs, and customer satisfaction metrics
4. Analyse operational and financial data to drive efficiency and cost savings
5. Manage staffing levels, recruitment, and performance reviews
6. Foster employee engagement, training compliance, and career development
7. Build and lead a high-performing management team with clear goals
8. Oversee absence management and support staff wellbeing
9. Coordinate resource planning and operational delivery
10. Resolve service issues and maintain high operational standards
11. Liaise with airline partners and contractors to meet quality benchmarks
12. Ensure timely handling of cargo across air and road freight
13. Provide flexibility to meet business demands beyond standard hours
Qualifications
What you’ll need?
14. Proven leadership in cargo operations, freighter handling, and warehouse logistics
15. Strong understanding of operational procedures and airline service standards
16. Exceptional interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills
17. Ability to lead under pressure and adapt to changing environments
18. Experience in coaching, performance management, and disciplinary processes
19. Commitment to continuous improvement and operational innovation
