Job Summary
To strategically lead, develop and implement a high‑quality clinical pharmacy service within the Medicine division, working with multidisciplinary teams. The role involves formulating a strategic vision for pharmacy services, promoting safe and effective use of drugs, and delivering advanced patient‑facing care in areas such as Emergency and Acute Medicine, Medical Specialities, and Care of Older People and Frailty.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the pharmacy clinical team in the Medicine division, ensuring service delivery meets agreed standards and business planning requirements.
* Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for pharmacy services, taking into account the diverse skills of the wider pharmacy team.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to promote safe, effective drug use, evaluate available information, and provide guidance on new drugs to relevant directorates and divisions.
* Provide an advanced clinical service to patients, including patient‑facing work in Emergency and Acute Medicine, Medical Specialities, and Care of Older People and Frailty.
* Support audit and research within teams and promote the use of Quality Improvement (QI) methodology at all opportunities.
* Ensure the development and delivery of training for pharmacy staff and other staff groups in specialist clinical areas.
* Work within agreed Trust and departmental policies and procedures, adhering to accepted standards of practice.
* Cover for service needs in other areas and sites within the Trust when required.
* Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the grade as assigned.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times, disclosing information only to those acting in an official capacity.
* Comply with the Code of Ethics of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
* Treat patients and customers with dignity and courtesy.
* Prevent medicines from falling into unauthorised hands.
* Ensure personal and others’ health, safety and welfare, complying with Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH.
* Promote Equal Opportunities and comply with legislation and Trust policies.
* Attend necessary training courses and meetings to perform duties efficiently.
* Act as the interface between Clinical Service Managers and Pharmacy teams, serving as a leader, expert clinical practitioner and role model in the specialist clinical area.
* Provide support and advice to other health professionals through participation in professional groups, working groups, conferences, and educational events.
* Demonstrate advanced professional reasoning, judgement and accountability, managing complex and ambiguous problems with limited information.
* Plan and deliver pharmaceutical care for patients with complex or specialist requirements across the Trust, liaising with senior pharmacy leadership, Clinical Directors, senior clinical nurses, consultants, multidisciplinary team members, and relevant Trust committees to optimise patient benefit.
