Job Description
Our continued success and business growth have created an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Contract Manager to join our team at JD Sports, based at their distribution centre in Rochdale. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a management team that promotes culture, performance, and engagement with its talented team.
Reporting to the Regional General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the contract, ensuring key stakeholder and customer requirements are met to a high standard.
Salary: Competitive (+car/car allowance & benefits)
Duration of contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 per week
How will you contribute?
* Ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the nationwide transport operation, managing relationships with Wincanton outbase locations in Scotland & Dunstable, and ensuring ongoing operations meet customer requirements in terms of service, financial goals, and KPIs.
* Build and maintain positive partnerships with key members of the customers' management teams.
* Provide leadership and motivation to the management team, ensuring they achieve daily operational excellence.
* Develop and implement succession planning through performance reviews and team meetings.
* Support and promote positive behaviour and culture as part of the contract management team.
* Bring expertise in transport, driver, and vehicle compliance, legislation, and practices to the operational team.
* Communicate effectively to foster employee engagement, especially in a unionised environment.
* Proactively meet customer requirements, identify opportunities, and ensure operational excellence.
* Support initiatives that align the contract with the customer's business and supply chain strategies.
* Participate in 'Open Book' discussions on decisions and performance during internal and customer reviews.
* Promote safe working practices in compliance with health and safety legislation.
* Follow company policies and procedures, including quality and safety standards.
* Maintain collaborative relationships with customers, demonstrating proactive problem-solving.
* Perform other duties necessary for the role.

* Proven managerial experience in a demanding environment.
* Experience managing transport operations.
* Attention to detail, high productivity, and experience in service-oriented environments.
* Knowledge of transport systems.
* Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills to motivate teams and meet KPIs.
* Structured process management skills for delegation and accountability.
* Engagement with senior teams to support business strategies.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with employees and stakeholders.
* Financial control skills, with experience in an 'Open Book' environment.
* Energy, determination, and commitment to customer contact and collaboration; effective communication is essential.
* International CPC qualification or a proactive drive to obtain it.
